KTU Makes Its Marks at TEKNOFEST: From Ideas to Victory!
With its strong support for the “National Technology Initiative,” Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) left a remarkable mark on TEKNOFEST, where breakthrough technologies shaping Türkiye’s future and innovative projects were showcased — bringing home numerous awards.
Organized under the leadership of the Türkiye Technology Team (T3) Foundation and the Ministry of Industry and Technology, TEKNOFEST — Türkiye’s largest Aerospace and Technology Festival — opened its doors this year at Istanbul Atatürk Airport. With the participation of public institutions, technology leaders, universities, and media organizations, the event highlighted KTU’s success through a series of prestigious awards.
Our Students Receive Awards from the President
KTU’s Fırtına Creatiny Team claimed first place in the TEKNOFEST 2025 Hyperloop Development Competition, organized by TÜBİTAK’s Rail Transportation Technologies Institute (RUTE), successfully advancing more than 100 meters in the tunnel. The team repeated last year’s triumph and became Türkiye’s champion for the second consecutive year among 12 competing university teams. Their award was personally presented by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who congratulated our students and wished them continued success.
Eight Medals from the International Patent Fair
At the 10th Istanbul International Invention Fair (ISIF’25), held within the scope of TEKNOFEST, KTU secured a total of eight medals: 1 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. The top achievement came from the invention titled “Novel Flexible Electrodes Based on Expanded Graphite Developed via Electroless Ni-B Plating” by Prof. Dr. Fatih Erdemir and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Onur Güler, which earned the Gold Medal, presented by Prof. Dr. Muhammed Zeki Durak, President of the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office.

New Successes from Our Student Teams
KTU Pusat Team, including students from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, won first place in Türkiye in the Secure Satellite Communication Competition. Led by Halil İbrahim Kafar, the team included Ahmet Özdil, Alperen Gece, Burcu Kartal, Eray Köşklü, Samet Öztürk, Furkan Karabacak, Hamza Nazmi Erdoğan, and Rıfat Can Özören, under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Emin Tuğcu.
Under the leadership of Dr. Hasan Sadık Mayda (Biotechnology PhD student), with Oğuzhan Çakmak (MSc student in Electrical and Electronics Engineering) and advisor Asst. Prof. Dr. Bilge Delibalta (Faculty of Medicine), a KTU team achieved 1st place in Türkiye in the Education Technologies / Future Technologies – Health category, and 2nd place overall in the General Category.
D354 Kocatepe Team, also from the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, placed 4th in Türkiye in the Wireless Communication Competition, led again by Halil İbrahim Kafar under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Emin Tuğcu.
Fırtına Creatiny Team, competing in TÜBİTAK SAGE’s Vertical Landing Rocket Competition, earned 3rd place in Türkiye. The team, advised by Dr. Harun Yanar, included captain Onurcan Işık, along with Emirhan Yılmaz, Emre Kaya, İclal Emine Balta, Emircan Bilgiç, Eslem Rana Atalayın, and Muhammed Efecan Baş.
International Student Achievement
Our international student Anka Noor from the Department of Health Management (Pakistan) won the “Commercialization Potential Award” in the Accessible Living Technologies Competition at TEKNOFEST.

Commenting on these remarkable achievements, Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı stated: “The success of our academics at the Patent Competition has made us immensely proud, while the championships and awards earned by our students have taken our joy to the highest level. I sincerely congratulate them all. We will continue to support Türkiye’s National Technology Initiative and our youth.”
