A Seminar on the "Türkiye's Progress in the Aviation Sector" Held at Our University

At our university (KTU), a seminar titled “Türkiye's Progress in the Aviation Sector,” which focused on the development of Türkiye’s aviation sector, was presented by Aeronautical Engineer Can Erel. The seminar took place in the KTU TV Studio with the participation of students and invited guests.

In his opening speech, our Rector, Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı, emphasized Türkiye’s struggle for independence in the aviation and defense industries, highlighting the momentum gained by domestic and national projects. Prof. Dr. Çuvalcı also drew attention to Türkiye's geopolitical situation, stating: “Our country is surrounded by a virtual ring of fire... We must take responsibility, add value, grow, and transform. In particular, there is a great responsibility on the shoulders of our engineering students at this point. As a university, we support our students' projects. Currently, we are providing financial support for BAP-09 Projects. Work hard and produce so that our country does not lag behind in the developing and transforming world; so that we do not remain dependent on foreign sources,” stressing the responsibilities of young engineers.

In his presentation, “Türkiye's Progress in the Aviation Sector: Past, Present, and Future,” Aeronautical Engineer Can Erel shared with the participants the 115-year development of Türkiye's aviation sector. The main aim of the seminar was to teach the chronological development of Türkiye's aviation ecosystem in an accurate and comparative manner. Erel defined aviation as humanity's struggle against nature, and in the first part of his presentation, he spoke about the aviation schools in Türkiye, the first of which was established in Yeşilköy. He provided an overview of Türkiye's aviation journey, detailing the institutions where graduates of these schools worked and the aircraft they produced.

Using a 10-year chronological timeline, Erel discussed the cooperation between the government, public institutions, and the private sector, stressing that understanding the past plays a critical role in interpreting the present and predicting the future. He also focused on the sector’s strategic transformations, future opportunities, and challenges. Highlighting both domestic and international projects, Erel underscored the importance of Turkish aviation on the global stage.

In the final part of the program, Can Erel answered questions from the audience. At the end of the seminar, a certificate of appreciation was presented to Erel by KTU Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdullah Çuvalcı.

Our university will continue to contribute to both academic and sectoral collaborations through such events, preparing its students for the future in the best possible way.
